Dr. Asen Bondzhev was born in 1985 in Burgas, Bulgaria. He grew up in Budapest, Hungary and studied in Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany and USA.

He worked as a notary assistant. In the private sector, he developed export activities. Due to the clear need for an active civil society as a corrective to any political power, he has organized and participated in hundreds of civil protests since 2011, adressing issues such as fuel and electricity prices, cartels, illegal migration, and more, as well as protesting against several Bulgarian governments that lost public trust.

From May 2021 to January 2022, Dr. Bondzhev served as the Deputy Governor of Burgas Province.

In 2023, he earned a doctoral degree in history with a thesis titled The Cultural and Historical Heritage of Bulgaria in the UNESCO World Heritage List. New Data and Methods of Popularization. The thesis also included extensive research on Orpheus – the largest contribution of the Thracians to European Culture. He is the author of a monograph on the religions of Ancient Greece and Mesopotamia, as well as research papers on the history of religions in the Ancient Near East and the Mediterranean. The main focus of his scientific work is Thracian history, archaeology, religion and cultural heritage. Periodically, he presents the film-presentation The Thracians: Origins, Faith and Cultural Heritage to the public.

In 2024, Dr. Bondzhev earned a master’s degree in cybersecurity (field: national security) with a thesis titled The Bulgarian Cyber Security System – Current State and Development Opportunities.
